LEADERS
LEADERS EMPOWERING THE ADVANCEMENT OF DIVERSITY IN EDUCATION, HEALTH RESEARCH, AND WOMEN'S HEALTH.
The steering committee for LEADERS is an established and esteemed group of colleagues dedicated to advancing women’s health and addressing sex differences in health research. Each member brings critical expertise and a commitment to our mission of fostering diversity in education and elevating more leaders to positions of influence, thereby strengthening the future workforce of women in medicine and driving positive change in health care nationally.
By increasing Endowed Chairs and Professorships in Women's Health within Internal Medicine and related disciplines, we aim to advance our understanding of women's health, going beyond the reproductive system to encompass all conditions unique to women, prevalent among women, and characterized by the influence of sex as a biological variable and gender impacts on health and disease. Our mission is to: • Investigate - We support prioritizing and funding health research focused on women's health beyond the reproductive system. • Educate - We foster diversity in education by promoting and providing training and mentorship to trainees, healthcare professionals, and the public related to women's health. • Advocate - We advance women's health research and equitable health policies at all levels to enhance the overall health of women.
The Leaders Empowering the Advancement of Diversity in Education, Research, and Science (LEADERS) Committee aims to reduce the persistent disparities in health care by increasing the number of endowed chairs in women's health across all fields of academic internal medicine and related disciplines.
By promoting diversity in education and advancing women in academic leadership through endowed chair positions, we will simultaneously enhance vital health research and clinical initiatives focused on the health of women.
